Is running in place and running on a treadmill the same thing?

I don’t have a treadmill and I don’t like to run outside, so is running in place like for example in front of a tv the same as actual running and/or running on a treadmill?

No. A treadmill requires more effort and therefore burns more calories.

Not quite: There is a slightly different kind of motion. And personally I think the treadmill would be easier on your joints than pounding on them while not really letting them move.
